Belen On Farm Demo Day 1

This is day 1 of 2 to be held on the North side of Belen, Wednesday Mar 13, 2024. Once you register, you will be sent the exact address of the training site.

This will be an entry-level class. Please bring your chair and any protective gear you might need, if you will participate in the hands-on portion (gloves, eyewear, hat, sunscreen etc.). Please register separately for each day if you will attend both so we can account for supplies and meals.

Biochar technology shows promise in mitigating climate change and improving soil quality, as well as reducing waste and producing energy as a byproduct. The water holding capacity of biochar makes it an obvious choice in arid lands.

The Johnson Su Bioreactor allows you to make a fungli-dominated compost.  This compost never goes anaerobic- thereby alleviating the smells you think of in an open compost pile.  You will be hard-pressed to find a compost that has a higher fungus-to-bacteria ratio than Johnson Su compost.

Day 1 of training we will spend the morning making Biochar and learning about inoculation techniques and the afternoon learning about and preparing the first of four Johnson-Su bioreactors.

*If you have spare biomass (logs, small branches)- please bring it for demo usage.
