Baca Family Farm: Los Chavez NM

The Baca Family farm is a small regenerative family farm in Los Chavez, NM. Focusing on organically grown Native New Mexico Green Chile: Capsicum annuum ‘New Mexico Group’
I visited this farm just before harvest season for the world-renowned chile that New Mexico is known for- most people around the world know it as its common name of “Hatch”, which is the most famous region in NM for growing this amazing and special chile pepper. This family farm is like so many we know. They care about their soil, are concerned about their water and the work can sometimes be overwhelming. But they do it anyway. To preserve their history. To feed their community. To eat REAL FOOD.
The Baca Family Farm primarily sells from their homestead farmstand but will take special orders if you email them: baca.family.farm@gmail.com
They can also be reached and followed on their FB page: Baca Family Farm Go LIKE their page and let them know you appreciate what they do!
This farm has been chosen to be one of our first beneficiaries of the Got Dirt? Get Soil program. YOU can be a part of their story today by clicking here: Support Local Farmers
and for those of you who are from NM (or know what I mean)- stare at this pile of fresh roasted Chile and take a deep breath…. if you know- you know!

Buda Botanicals: Buda TX

Our feature this week is Buda Botanicals. This local farm is located in Buda, TX, just South of Austin. They focus on ecological-based principles, biodiversity, and soil and water quality to produce nutritionally dense fruits, vegetables, herbs, and pollinator-loving cut flowers.
In addition to minimal soil disturbance, they avoid pesticides to protect beneficial organisms and minimize human exposure to toxins. They can be found at the Dripping Springs Farmers Market on Wednesday evenings or the Buda Farmers Market on Sunday afternoons.

Watch this farm- they will be adding a community teaching aspect to their location soon. Ever wanted to learn from experts how to build a Johnson-Su composting bioreactor (what? making compost without the smell? Sign me up!)
